retreat projects!

18 Mar

finally!  here are the projects we worked on during the ruffles and rickrack retreat:

this little honey has been in the works for about 2 years.  since i learned my niece jess was having twin boys.  can’t remember the name of the pattern but i believe it was designed by cheryl winslow and in a quilts and more magazine.  this is either for silas or quinn…..i can’t remember which one she puts in green.

and a close up.  i love the ricrac.  but i have to admit it was kind of a pain.  next time i think i’ll attempt to sew it down using the longarm machine.

and this is quinn’s…..or silas’…. depending.  the color is a bit off here i think because it was really late at night so no natural lighting.  the quilt is bluer than it looks. so now i just need to quilt these two and these adorable little boys might have their “birth” quilts before their 2nd birthday!

this is a pattern called beach balls by anka’s treasures (heather mulder peterson).  if you fuzz your eyes a little bit, the white stripes look like ric rac.  that’s my story and i’m sticking to it!   i finished this one on the last day of the retreat (mar 7).  i gave it to carin for her birthday on march 7.  i don’t procrastinate much do i?  she’s bought a warm minkee fabric for the back.  it’s gonna be a snuggler!

and now for miss chris’ projects:

she made 3 of these little tag blankets.  chris is a whizbang.  she sews like she has ghosts or zombies chasing her.

after the tag blankets, she decided to heck with the ricrac theme.  she pulled a “blob” of fabric off her stash shelf and put this together.

and a close up the lovely ladies!  check check.  she had pulled 2 more blobs off her shelf that were patriotic quilt kits she’d bought years ago.  and the both had short cuts in them so she was not able to proceed.  how do you spell CRANKY?

and this lovely is karen’z.  not sure how she tied this in with ricrac…..this is a jan mullen of stargazey quilts pattern.  our 1st quarterly theme of 2011 was jan mullen.  it was also our NYD quilt this year.  look at karen go.  she’s completed hers.  sadly mine is not completed.  i’ll probably have rotten quilting luck all year.

and a close up to see the fun fabrics!

i’m gonna close out the retreat posts with my thank you postcards:

i wished i’d had red ricrac on hand but i didn’t.  which is ok because it lead me to buttons.

karen sent out an adorable thank you postcard too but it’s still in my camera (the pic not the card people!) so i’ll have to post that another time….

thus concludes the ruffles and rickrack retreat.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU  to jason and jennifer for letting us use your lake home.  it was absolutely perfect.  so perfect in fact that the girls wanna come back again next spring!  we even have our theme planned…..” a day at the beach”.  🙂

next retreat is in the fall when the boyos go deer hunting.  our theme is “seasonal”.  it promises to be fun fun fun!  and this time i get to just relax….i have no jobs for this retreat!  but i got a little something cookin’………

When we were expecting our twins, if we’d had a boy/girl pair the boy would have been Quinn. We always dressed Joe in Green: because of Mean Joe Greene.

In that Jan Mullen quilt, if you squint, you can pretend the border is kinda rick racky. LOL

Thanks Suzanne! You’re right…. it is rick racky! Besides, I made the candy mats earlier instead of working on the Jan Mullen quilt and they are rick racky. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. ;o)
