postcards! treat bag! bali bags!

27 Feb

i’m so behind on posting.  sigh.  i keep taking pictures and then they just lanquish in the computer.  i suppose i have worse faults.  no no.  you don’t have to list them.  ok on with the pictures!

remember that mess i posted last time?  well it turned into this:

the postcards were used for 2 different “purposes”.  1st, i am the location hostess for our spring retreat and as such, i am responsible to send out invitations (there is only a couple of us attendees so it’s not a biggie).  our theme is ruffles and rick rack.  obviously the flower stems are rick rack and the flowers themselves were made using the bernina ruffler (LOVE that attachment).  i dug into my jar of vintage buttons and used them for the flower centers.  walaa!  don’t you just love it?  one of my favorite postcards that i’ve done.  the 2nd purpose for the cards was a MQR exchange.  that theme was “comfort”.  my friends give me comfort and so do my quilting retreats!

here’s  another set of cards:

and i made another treat bag.  they are sort of addicting!  i failed however to purchase some steamaseam2 and guess what?!?  it makes a difference!  i was still able to do it.  and it turned out really cute (i wanted to keep it instead of giving it away), but it was a bit trickier without the steamaseam2 (so go get you some!).

i used a fat quarter that i eliminated from a quilt i’ll be working on at the retreat because there was not enough contrast between this fabric and the background fabric.  i paired it with a chocolate brown dot and some cream rick rack(!) that was my BARGAIN at a recent quilt shop closing sale (yea me!)  and the ribbon was tied around a baby blanket that was purchased eons ago.  it’s almost a totally “free” bag.  some might say i have trouble throwing things away….but i don’t listen to them!  here’s another shot of the bag standing up ready to be filled with treats:

ahuh.  i like it!

and last friday a couple friends and i took a bag class from HeirloomCreations . (yeah, i know that leads you to the video to make a treat bag, but really, you should make some!)   what fun! and then we got together yesterday to finish our bags:

we all chose bali pops….i think they were called:  blue hawaiian, sangria, and mango margarita.  we pressed and folded the strips and then wrapped them around clothesline cord.  then we chose a variagated thread and sewed up our bags!  we sewed ALOT.

walaa!  it’s finished and it’s beautiful!  (confidentially, you should know that this bag also required some ripping and cussing).  the buttons are just incredible.

and look at this lovely!  she wants you to know that she’ll be finding some terrific buttons too to cover up her handle attachment areas.

what the fumjack?  this looks exactly like the first picture.  uh huh.  somehow my beautiful king tut variegated thread went on a road trip to springfield to check out some prime spring turkey hunting ground.  someone was not a happy camper.  <insert cussing and pouting>

well at least someone was happy.  $@*#&$*()!&@*&$%

Very cute–and you will NOT tempt me with the bali bags–too much work! I’d like the pattern for the treat bags, too. (They are more my speed!)

karyl and jody-Call Heirloom creations…605-332-4435 for a kit for the treatbag. i think they were $6.50 or $7.00. comes with everything you need to make a small bag and all the directions for making small, large and even wine bottle bags. it’s super simple. takes about 15 minutes to make one the first time. your time improves after that.

    tammy….you’re welcome! 🙂

Oh, oh, can I come to the bali bag day? And I love my postcard – it’s way too cute! And Em thinks the other postcard I received is pretty darn funny even if you plan to throw rocks at him. ;o)

The treat bag IS adorable – I gave it away to Aleycia – and filled it with lots of good treats that I ate way too much of before they went in the bag! I’ll pass on the bali bag day.
