we did NOT burn mom’s house

1 Jul

down.  i want to get that out there up front.  although as we were driving away, carin and i had a discussion on needing to up the ratio of adult vs child.  seems one to one isn’t quite right…..

we popped into my mom’s for a little visit the other day.  she had been painting a stool and it was drying in the kitchen.  the boys were very busy.  they have a little bag of toys at mom’s and were immediately involved in digging through that.  mom has lots of little pretties about that require touching and picking up and sometimes even kissing.  liam was hungry and wet.  daisy needed petting and then following when she tried to avoid the little hands when she’d had enough petting.  the boys wanted chocolate milk but agreed to a cup of hot cocoa.  all this within about 5 minutes.  mom started making the hot cocoa and mentioned that the paint smell seemed to be getting stronger.  even tho my smeller is not good, i gave it a whiff.  yep, i smell chemicals.  it got worse.  how old was that paint mom?  the kitchen smoke detector went off.  no smoke…just smell and it got worser.  are you sure that paint was intended for wooden stools as opposed to the inside of a nuclear reactor? we move the stool outside.  now the living room detector is detecting something.  i began to suspect it wasn’t the paint.

oh!  look!  the oven is on broil.  are you cooking something mom?  she wasn’t.  apparently one of the boys was.

mom’s house is seriously lacking in counter space and kitchen cupboards.  and mom is inventive.  since she isn’t much of a baker, she stores some pans and such in her oven.  and included in that was a glass cake pan with a rubber/plastic  lid.  WAS is the key term here.

so, just to be clear here:  we did NOT burn down mom’s house.
