p a r t y!

22 Jun

it was once again, time for birthday club (even tho some of us stopped counting a long time ago!).  deon and i have always been paired up and it works so nice.  our humble abodes are just 1/4 mile apart so it makes running for an egg at 11pm not such a big crisis.  🙂

deon and i like to have a “theme” when it’s our turn to host.  we decided on a “coffee shop theme”.  i usually spearhead the invitations.  i made coffee cuffs this time.  but…..i can’t find any pictures.  anyway, the cuffs started life as a sweater, fell into my hands, got felted, got needled and went around a disposable coffee cup.  inside the cup was a homemade cappuccino mix.  the party information was on the inside of the cuff written on a large mailing label.  i’ll keep digging for the photos….. but for now, let’s get the party started!

remember the ruffles i made?  they became tablecloths.  karen’s mom sewed the cloths for me.  i  just made and added the ruffles.

and then i made repeated trips to the local hardware store buying spray paint in bright colors.  and i dug out every mismatched/orphaned chair i could find stashed away in the attic, shed, and garage.

i used an indoor/outdoor spray that can be used on wood, plastic, metal etc.  all the chairs need another coat and then i might do a clear coat to finish them off.  super fun (not the painting part…..that was hot and sweaty and gave me a blister on my pointer finger).  i’ll probably choose 4 of the chairs (one of each color) and leave on the porch.  hmmm i wonder if the black metal deck set could benefit from a freshening up?!?!?!  back to the party….

ok, we have table cloths and chairs….hey!  longaberger has some bright baskets!

the bottom has espresso beans to prop up  pretzel rods (drizzled with chocolate and sprinkled with pink sugar).  i had planned for biscotti but dang! biscotti is spendy!  i tried to make it but yeah, it’s in the trash…….  along with the green basket, i brought home it’s pink, purple and orange friends.  🙂

i found the plates at world market.  we wanted a variety of tasty little bites for our guests to sample.  we made sugar free lemon tarts, lemon mini cupcakes, coconut cubes, apricot filled cakes, chocolate mini cakes, tiramasu, and pink champagne cupcakes.

i know.  the cupcakes are not up to standard.  we had a mell of a hess with the frostings.  i’m blaming it on humidity.

before the treats tho, we fed them a chicken salad croissant, kettle chips and a dill pickle.  simple but tasty. and no pix.  i must have gotten busy hosting, or eating, or yakking…..

and for beverages we served 3 different coffees, iced cucumber water and a coffee granita.  and no pix of that either.   i do have lots of granita left over, so maybe i’ll make myself one today and take a pic for you!  the iced cucumber water is soo refreshing!  sara from heirloom creations served this at a sewtopia meeting and i cobbed the idea and recipe from her.  the recipe is pretty tough but i’ll give it to you because i know you can handle it!

water, peeled and chunked up cukes.  soak for several hours.  add lots of ice and some pretty slices of cukes.  serve.

we had such a nice relaxing evening visiting.

we were missing a few of our members (summer scheduling is tough)  but most of us chitter chattered until after 9pm!

time to start planning the next party!  thanks deon for being a great partyner!

What a fun colorful party! You’ve inspired me to put a little more umph into life lol. I’m thinking that spray paint I saw needs to come to my house. Did you have to prime the chairs first?

    • myolivebranch June 22, 2010 at 5:16 pm #

i did prime the chairs. 1st i sanded them just enough to rough them up. i did not take all the old paint or finish off. then prime, then paint. and more paint. and….well you get the idea!
