more sewing!

27 Apr

we got together for another weekend of sewing even tho scott kind of threw a monkey wrench into our plans.  he was supposed to leave for the weekend WITH the D O G.  thursday morning he came down with the flu and was laid up all weekend.  so we took pity on him and let him stay in his own home (we’re so nice!).

instead of a sleep over weekend, we just did long days of sewing!  and of course we exchanged wonderful trinkets!  our theme was “april showers” so we showered each other with threads, rulers, snippers, magnets, books, blades etc.  it was great fun.

i got quite a bit accomplished:

a nice little baby quilt out of  charm pack.  somehow i got mixed up in my placement of the charms when i was sewing them so that annoyed me.  but not enough to re-do it.  i’m lazy that way.

this is a little 4 seam baby boy quilt!  so simple but very cute.  in the original pattern, the striped fabric was actually strips sewn together but i found this wonderful stripe and improvised on the pattern.

i didn’t snap a picture of it, but i then sewed a backing using up every smidge of fabric from the stop to piece a nice little strip of blocks to jazz up the backing fabric.

i had to do a bit of prep work then.  my next project was not cut out.  so i cut out over 400 thimbles!  it went reasonably fast with the “dresden” ruler.

thimbles!  lots of thimbles!

there will be 4 more rows added to this to make a nice lap size quilt.  and i didn’t switch up any of the thimbles.  i moved a table right beside me and layed out 3 rows at a time (to make sure i had good distribution of the 57 fabrics).  sewed all 3 rows in “one chaining”, pressed them opposite directions, and WALAA!   the thimbles nested together like magic!  love it.

well, when i put it all out like that, i seems like i should have gotten more accomplished!  guess i spent too much time yapping and laughing.  and speaking of that, i have a special message for karen (my partner in crime):

meow.

Okay, I’m at a total loss for words regarding the meow. I will however, say that the projects you completed are lovely and you were definitely a “hostess with the mostest”. I had a wonderful time (even when my brain wasn’t firing on all cylinders). When can I come back to play again?
