not new years day quilt

5 Jan

and the new years day quilt!

first the not.  after much deliberation and wine,  i decided not to combine the butterfly blocks and the pink and brown contemporary fabrics.  i had a limited amount of the fabrics so i decided to just go ahead and piece the blocks into a small quilt.  not sure what i’ll do with it.  maybe a charity quilt maybe ….who knows.

hmmm seems a bit faded in the picture.  oh well, it’s done!!  i thought about adding a border but decided against it for now.

and here’s 6 of the new years day blocks:

again, they look a bit faded.  i rarely have the “too much natural light” problem but apparently i do today.  anyway, i decided that the butterflies were too well done to put them in a quilt that just didn’t seem right.  so i’m using some civil wars.  the tan fabric is really quite beautiful.  i think it’s called “brown bag” or something like that.  it doesn’t show in the picture but there is loads of texture in that fabric.  anyway, i felt that putting that in each block would “tie it together” and then i wouldn’t lose the butterflies.

whoever said that using my favorite fabrics might help the butterflies grow on me was right.  i am starting to like this and i think it was “mum” that said, even putting it out on special times (mother’s day or easter) will make me glad i went the extra mile in the blocks.

so thanks everyone for your opinions.  it wasn’t so much the choice you made that helped me, but the reasons behind the choices that you made that got me thinkin’!
