we have a pool!

14 Jun

it’s all very exciting. it’s NOTHING fancy. it’s like a big cattle watering tank only prettier. SandDollar_Thumb and it’s not done yet. we’ve been running water for 20 hours now. not sure how much is in there (i’m heading out to check on it shortly here) but i’m pretty sure we won’t be swimming yet today. that’s fine, i have work to do. in the mean time……YEA! we’re getting a pool!

no pictures of the actual pool folks-obviously the one above with the catus’ is NOT in my yard! (although i figure to give you a few pix PRIOR to putting on a suit….you’re welcome) as my camera and my BOYS went to minnesota where ian promptly fell and cut his lip requiring a quick hospital visit. šŸ˜¦Ā  now, i could use the old camera (would have to find it first) or even the video camera but well, that’s out of my routine so….we wait for the water to rise and the camera (and boys) to return.

we have a POOL!

If you are filling straight from the hose it may be a while before you swim cause it will be COLD WATER. You will love it though. Do you have a fence around your yard? You might want to check what laws are in your area. Around here you have to have a fence. Although, you live out in the country right? Prolly a whole different animal. I always had a pool growing up. Loads of fun for the boys and for you!

no fence but yeah, we live in the sticks. and yeah, the water is cold. šŸ™‚

Makes me really miss my pool! I never replaced at after I moved. Maybe someday I can get another! Yep, 55 degrees will be the temp of your water if you are filling with a hose. It will take several days to be warm enough to swim unless you have a heater. Get a solar blanket for the pool. It will help warm the water faster and it will hold in the heat at night, so you don’t loose everything you gained during the day. I second Jan’s idea…get a floating chair with drink holder for those icy beverages in the heat of summer! šŸ™‚

heater no…….out of budget. solar blanket CHECK chair and icy beverage….i’m all over that!

Lucky girl! Ours is not set up yet. šŸ˜¦ We have an 18′ (or 20′?, don’t remember) round pool that we put up and take down every year. DD and I love it. DS and DH think it’s always too cold which, of course, it is but on hot days…who cares? It takes at least 24 hrs (maybe more) to fill our pool with a hose.

You can also purchase solar panels that you hook up to your pump. The water goes through this array of sun-heated tubing before going back into your pool. A bit pricey but probably worth it if you want to use the pool a lot. So far I haven’t been able to convince DH we need that yet.

Enjoy! Even though above-ground pools can still be a bit of a hassle, you can’t beat the price and it beats the expense of permitting, building and maintaining an in-ground pool. Ours has more than paid for itself in terms of fun!

Hope the grandbabies have their waterwings ready!

omg if i had to have scott set this up every year, it would never get done! we are still working on it.

Yeah, well, DH refused to get a rigid sided pool like yours. We have one that looks similar (straight sides, metal framing) but because it is heavy vinyl, they recommend breakdown every year if temps get below zero. (Unfortunately, they do in the winters here but mostly at night.)

We are fighting over getting the pool set up again. (As we do every year.) DH never wants to do it UNTIL it gets real hot! But by the time he’s done, the hot weather is gone! šŸ˜¦

Enjoy your pool! It looks like the exact model I tried to get DH to purchase a few years ago. Ah well, maybe when the kids are gone and I move to AZ, I’ll have a “real” pool… Right. Like that’s gonna happen… šŸ˜‰
