am i crazy?

1 Mar

don’t answer that.

so i had totally decided not to do this months “little quilt”. it was just okay, didn’t really jazz me up. i was fine with passing on it. gives me a little break. and then i saw it in fabric. it’s SO STINKIN’ CUTE! rats. so fine. i start. i decide instead of doing all 20 blocks in the same fabric combination, i’ll do each block in a different color. kewl!

this isn’t so bad. not quite so TINY. it’s a 4.5 inch block. i can deal. mark an X in the light and then sew on both sides. doable.

cut this in half NON-diagonally. know what i mean?

and again (non-diagonally). i set aside the other “1/2” as i don’t need it right now.

go ahead now and cut diagonally, you know you WANT to! you have the 4 pieces you need to make your broken dishes block.

open and press to the dark side (say hi to adam if you see him there, you know, on the dark side)

crud. trim each to 1 3/4″. this is painful people. but it makes the blocks fit together beautifully.

match up your seams, sew and WALAA. it’s a broken dish that measures 3″.

little clipping trick courtesy of jo morton. snip on both sides of your seam join at 1/4 inch (do not clip through your seam). open it up and it makes a little checkerboard. let each side of the seam, fall where it naturally wants to go. makes for a nice flat “join”

here’s the crazy. to make this little quilt, i have to trim up 80 1/2 square triangles to 1 3/4″ blocks. this is half of them. and then because….well just because, i still have another 80 to do SOMETHING with.  s’pose i could make 2 little quilts.  or one big quilt.  or just let them “marinate” a bit.

yeah. don’t answer the crazy question. i know the answer already. it was just a rhetorical question. and no, i don’t need any more documentation. i’m good.

I don’t like the black background….it’s very hard to read for these nearly-50-year-old eyes.

I’ll square up the itty bitty blocks if you send them to me. You won’t get them back though. Very cute!

I like this one – plus the font is bigger. Has kinda a soft, classic look to it.
